Youth Faith Formation Class

Class time:  Sunday 10:15-11:45

Religious Education(CCD) – School-age Children

Our parish is committed to support parents and their role as educators of their children, by having regular classes for school-age children. Religious education classes serve to join the parents and church in Christian formation with their children. Programs include Sacramental preparation, supporting the children in a strong faith and sharing the joys of discovery in a most special way. The program needs volunteers as aides, teachers and substitutes.

*Teachers and volunteers will need to complete VIRTUS training mandated by the Diocese of Colorado Springs.

Family Faith Formation

The role of parents in developing family life is of such importance that it is almost impossible to provide an adequate substitute. It is therefore the duty of parents to create a family atmosphere inspired by love and devotion to God and to their fellow-man, which will promote an integrated, personal and social understanding within their children.

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)

Perhaps you know someone who expresses an interest in completing the preparations to join the Roman Catholic Church. Studies are designed to instruct, support and encourage adults to follow the call of the Lord.

Rite of Christian Initiation of Children (RCIC)

This is for older children who did not receive some or all of the sacraments at the normal age.

First Reconciliation and First Eucharist

The Age of Reason is the normal time for preparation and reception of these Sacraments…that usually is interpreted as second grade. A child must be enrolled in the Religious Education program for two years before receiving these Sacraments. A child must be instructed in the Sacrament of Reconciliation before they may begin the preparation for First Eucharist.

Confirmation

The norm for the reception of Confirmation at St. Mary of the Rockies is 8th grade. There is a two year preparation program…the first year includes the basic doctrines of the Catholic Faith and the second year, the meaning and consequences of receiving the Sacrament.

(Consideration of a younger age for Confirmation will be given by the Pastor, depending on the child’s level of preparedness. This is truly only by exception and is rare.)
